5 Cheap Ways to Learn Python

5 Cheap Ways to Learn Python

Python needn't be difficult to learn, but like all new skills it requires a bit of determination and time. I've compiled a list of useful places to learn the language without breaking the bank.

1. Solo Learn

Learn to code in the comfort of your bedroom... or anywhere really. The app is available on both mobile and web and more importantly it is free. The user interface is clear and easy to use. Learn more here.

2. Code First: Girls

Code First: Girls are a great social enterprise that run various coding classes. They have a range of paid courses and free community courses. I am currently on their beginners Python course and am really enjoying it. As the name suggests the course is restricted to women and their free community courses are only available to 18-23 year olds (or recent graduates). You can sign up here.

3. Learn Python the Hard Way

Previously a free online book, this is the most costly item on the list at $29.99 . The exercises are a really great way to test your knowledge, and ironically it isn't as hard as the name suggests. Though, I haven't tried the videos or the full book referenced in the new version. Check it out here.

4. Learn Python

Similar to Solo Learn and LPTHW, Learn Python provides a step-by-step guide on how to learn the basics. There is also a small section on the Pandas library. Have a look here.

5. Meetup

Meetup is another great way to look for help with Python, and you'll be surprised how forthcoming people will be. There are usually Python-themed meetups happening all over the country, so the chances are pretty high that you'll find one. I'd recommend this for anyone who wants the motivation of a 'teacher' or wants to complement their online learning.
